HVO (4 class, FOB Netherlands)

This is a monthly cash‑settled future based on Argus’ daily assessment of hydrotreated vegetable oil (HVO) Class IV priced FOB in the ARA (Amsterdam–Rotterdam–Antwerp) region. The index is constructed by stitching together successive monthly futures contracts, providing a continuous price series without gaps when rolling from one contract month to the next. Class IV HVO is a Renewable Energy Directive (RED)‑compliant renewable diesel, with Class IV typically linked to palm‑based feedstocks including POME (palm oil mill effluent). These contracts are used by traders, refiners, and energy companies to hedge price risk and to establish transparent benchmarks for physical deals. Geographically, the price reflects the European ARA hub, and is quoted in USD per metric tonne.
