Profile

Malaysia is a country in Southeast Asia. The largest sector of the country's economy is services sector. The currency of Malaysia is the Malaysian Ringgit.

The Malaysian bond market is one of the most developed and dynamic bond markets in the Association of Southeast Asian Nations (ASEAN). The market offers a wide range of instruments, considering the fact it has the largest Sukuk market in the world. Bonds prices are shown on the Bond Info Hub Website and are Over-The-Counter (OTC) prices. The Malaysian bond market is represented by Government Securities, Private Debt Securities and Asset Backed Securities.

Government Securities of Malaysia are represented by Malaysian Treasury Bills (MTB) (short-term discount securities for working capital), Malaysian Government Securities (MGS) (long-term interest-bearing debt securities), Government Investment Issues (GII) (long-term Islamic Government securities) and Malaysian Islamic Treasury Bills (MITB) (short-term Islamic Government securities). MGS are long-term bonds with fixed coupon rate issued by the government through Bank Negara Malaysia (BNM), the central bank, to raise long-term funds from the domestic capital market to finance the government's development expenditure. MGS are issued by tender via appointed principal dealers. Government Investment Issues (GII) are 3-year sukuk bonds based on established Shariah principles. Bank Negara Bills (BNB) and Bank Negara Notes (BNN) are issued by the Central Bank for its market operations.

The private sector is represented by short and long term debt securities issued by private corporations on conventional or Islamic basis. Companies also tap market with Asset Backed Securities (ABS) (mortgages, loans, receivables issued by private or quasi Government corporations).
